Send Me to Sleep Peri-Meno Hot Chocolate

One of the distressing effects of the peri-menopause transition for a number of women is the difficulty with falling asleep or staying asleep. On those nights when you just can't take it anymore, or even as part of a new sleep routine - try our protein packed Hot Chocolate for a helping hand. In particular this recipe focuses on;

  1. Tryptophan content: Both cocoa and milk and Ovitage in this hot chocolate recipe contain tryptophan, an amino acid that helps produce serotonin and melatonin, which regulate sleep and mood 
  2. Magnesium: Dark chocolate contains magnesium, which can aid in adjusting to the circadian rhythm and may have sleep-related benefits 
  3. Warmth: Drinking a warm beverage before bed can help raise body temperature slightly, which then facilitates cooling down - a process that aids in falling asleep 
  4. Psychological effects: The comforting aroma and taste of hot chocolate can evoke positive feelings and memories, promoting relaxation 
  5. Serotonin boost: The tryptophan in this hot chocolate recipe can lead to increased serotonin levels, creating a sense of contentment and relaxation 
  6. Stress reduction: The combination of ingredients may help ease stress and anxiety, which can interfere with sleep 

However, it's important to note:

  • Effects may vary from person to person depending on individual factors and overall diet 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1Tbs Cocoa Powder
  • 1Tbs Everee #3 or Everee #4
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 50gms Dark Chocolate
  • 1 Tbs sugar (optional)

Directions:

Bring water to the boil while stirring in cocoa powder. Add milk gradually and bring to a simmer. Whisk in Chocolate, Everee and Sugar (optional) until mixture is smooth and creamy.
